Opening Credits Designs

Credit Designs

These were all designed on Microsoft Word, all of the credits were inspired by the opening title research.

I really like these designs centred, mainly with the black and white backgrounds as they create a nice juxtaposition. The kitsch designs represent the film perfectly mainly with the black and white designs. There is a sense of old horror as the design is bold and takes the space of the frame which takes control of the audience as full concentration is on the title.

Cast

Casting

The decision for the cast was having 3 females as main characters, this wasn't due to not having a male in our group but because its a contemporary decision that is fashionable in Film 4 in the present time. Example, Carol (2015), Room (2016), Suffragette (2015), Under the Skin (2014) etc. It is the future to make female roles to become equal instead of the traditional representation of women in film. This idea of overruling women reminds me of an old 1984 film 'Seksmisja', its a polish comedy about two men who go into a time machine into the future to find an all women dictatorship with men totally extinguished. This could be a possible narrative to our film representing the future, this excessiveness with no equality or balance. The topics of technology overtaking, equality and feminism. They are challenging personal opinions and something over exaggerated into the themes of horror through the visuals.
There are also the themes of contagious viruses, a popular theme within horror, 28 Days Later (2002), World War Z (2013), Night of the Living Dead (1968) etc. There is this factor of a virus theme of excessiveness and wanting more in society as a heavy influence on the opening of Sugarcoated. There is also a vulnerable representation of women in the opening as they are victims of the dystopia.
